Hampstead Heath Fun Fair

Best time to visit - right before the fair starts.

Wish they had more of the old-fashioned entertainment - clairvoyante, the bearded lady, lobster girl, dog boy...instead of Snow White rides supreme. Guess where we're not going this weekend!

Going Entrepreneurial

Following the great American tradition, we've decided it's time for our kids to start making their own pocket money.

Inspired by Charlie Brown, Rio decided that her future lies in the lemonade stand industry. And right she was, in less than an hour she pocketed over 30 pounds selling 50p lemonade.

Unfortunately her lemonade supply was drastically low in light of the tremendous and admiring demand.

The entrepreneurial lesson for today was: a) need to improve work flow and make sure dad brings down a loooooooot of lemonade; b) remember to remind mom to bake some cupcakes for additional revenue; c) find something useful for Ila to do, as she was getting bored and giving the kind people quizzical looks; d) start charging extra for photos.

So guess what Rio is doing next weekend!

Summer in the city

London is actually quite lovely in August. Half of the city seems to have deserted it, so it's easy to just pop into some sort of a free activity and be assured that there won't be a mob waiting at the doors.

Today we went to the Hampstead Library's Madhatter's Tea Party right after Rio's tennis camp.

The other day we went to the weekly Bear Picnic at the newly reopened John Keat's house. They also have an absolutely amazing 100 year old and yummy mulberry tree - guess what we did after the picnic!

And of course, our days are also filled with blackberry picking. This year's crop is amazing. Juicy, sweet and very plentiful. If I only knew how to hunt rabbits and know my mushrooms, we could cut our food bill in half this month, as the Heath is filled with good things to eat.
